WangduePhodrang is located in the central part of Bhutan and is famous for its Lozeys. Lozeys are ornamental speeches, some significant lozeys include the sorrows of GaylongSumdarTashi a local monk and of Pemai Tshewang Tashi who was an administrator at the local Dzhong. The imposing Wandue Phodrang Dzhong was built in 1639 by ShabdrungNawangNamgyal, the legendary warrior monk.
The annual WangduephodrangTshechu was started by Shabdrung Namgyal shortly after the construction of the Dzhong was completed and a way to bring the people together and promote peace and harmony between people. The three day long Tshechu is also popular with the residents of the Punakha and Thimphu districts as many flock to the Dzhong to partake in the entertainment and revelry that is associated with this festival. The festival is renowned for its RakshaMangcham, an Ox dance that is unique to the festival. The festival conclude with the unfurling of the Guru Tshengye’s Sacred Scroll Painting ( Thongdroel ) for the people to receive its blessings
