During the festival an ancient and holy relic is put on display so that the people can receive its blessing. According to an ancient legend a lama once visited an old lady and asked her for a glass of water. When the lady returned after fetching a glass, the Lama had disappeared and left a sack behind. The old lady opened the sack and discovered a statue in the sack. The statue was said to be blessed and was regarded by locals as a holy relic. Each year the old woman’s descendants bring the statue out of its sanctum for the public to receive its blessing.
