The Sakten valley is located in the TrashigangDzhongkhag in eastern Bhutan. Sakteng with its seminomadic Brokpas is one of the most isolated and untouched parts of the modern world. Infact the region was virtually off limits for outsider for over 30 years until recently travel restrictions to this place were lifted and people started to travel the region. The region’s main inhabitants the Brokpas live close to nature and sustain themselves through herding yaks and other dairy animals. The SaktenTshechu is a three day long annual festival that takes place at the SaktengLakhang. The lakahng is located adjacent to a major village of the area. The festival is a welcome relief for the people of the region. The hard working Brokpas enjoy a well-deserved break and plunge themselves head long into the celebrations . During the festival one also gets to witness the Yak Dance and the Ache Lhamo which is unique to the Brokpas and this region. You will find the Brokpas dressed in their finest of clothing made out of yak hair and sheep wool drinking and being merry. The Brokpas like to drown themselves in spirit or spirituality !!!
